Trusted Advisor to Credit Unions

Prior to joining Your Credit Union Partner, Tom led the national programming for smaller credit unions (under $150 million in assets) at America’s Credit Unions, formerly Credit Union National Association. During his time at the national association, he facilitated training and conferences for leaders of small credit unions, conducted regional group strategic planning sessions, developed CEO succession planning tools, and spoke regularly at national and state conferences on board, growth, and operational success strategies employed by smaller credit unions across the country. He led the Small Credit Union Committee — the advocacy body at the national association — that successfully advocated for the creation of the NCUA’s CECL worksheet, updated policy review guidance, friendlier non-member deposit rules, improved relations between examiners and credit union leadership, and the creation of additional resources at the agency dedicated specifically to support small credit unions, as introduced by NCUA Board Chairman Todd Harper in the previous two annual budgets. Tom also helped facilitate the establishment of the Credit Union Women’s Leadership Alliance, an organization that aims to empower women CEOs of small credit unions in the industry, providing strategic direction and general support from the national association. He is also currently working to help support a new organization in the movement that aims to strengthen Native American employees of credit unions and credit unions in general who support native communities. In addition to his work at the association, Tom is a board member of Madison Credit Union, a $60 million credit union in Madison, Wis., that serves city of Madison employees, and has served as the lead for strategic planning and board governance for the body during his tenure.
